Singers Night: 1st June 2009.
In order to satisfy Croydons’ Appetite for High Art. I (Nigel) decided to put myself through the psychological mangle (also known as Singers Night) once again for you lucky thrill seekers.
The Personel on this singers night were as follows:
The BBB usual suspects plus some highly talented individuals.
Lewis Dixon, Colin Anthony, The Marjorie Belles, Emer MacParland and Hannah Lindo.
First Half:
The evenings’ idle chitter chatter was bought to a shuddering halt with the BBB doing an instrumental arrangement of I Ain’t Got Nobody to kick of the evening.
Lewis Dixon opened the show with Frank Sinatras’ Come Fly with Me. Lewis has come quite some way since he first sung with the band about 10 years ago, and did a great job well done Lewis.
We were honoured to have the fabulous Colin Anthony come down and sing with us. He Sang 2 Songs from his own pad and he was even posh enough to bring down his own conductor in the form of Barry Forgie; it was just like the Eurovision song contest but with talent. Not even Anton Browne Does that!.
Next up we had a Girly group all the way from norft Laan-don. Vannessa Havell, Hannah Jones and Natalie Farrell collectively known as “The Marjorie Belles”, bought a couple of there own charts down. The first was Bin Mier Das something or other. This was very well received by the audience.
Emer MacParland came and sang the Dianne Schuur/Count Basie arrangement of I Just found out about love (and I Like it). She was of course was Fab!.(I wouldn’t expect anything less)
Lewis Dixon sang Michael Bublés’ arrangement of Feeling Good next. Great arrangement, great singer what could go wrong?. Nothing it sounded really good, good job Lewis.
To Close off the first Half the BBB played Gordon Goodwins’ Jazz Police with solo by Pete Cooper… Always a crowd pleaser!.
Second Half:
The Majorie Belles Kicked off the second half with …..
Hannah Lindo is a friend of a member of the Marjory Belles’ came up and belted out Birley Shassys’ version of Big Spender(Dut, Der-der-Derrr Du Dut..Ching).
Lewis Dixon followed with Frank Sinatras’ Luck Be A Lady from the Film Guys and Dolls.
So as not to feel left out Emer Sang that old Kipper Deed I Do, I believe our American friends define this sort of arrangement as a “Real Flag Waver”… whatever that means!.
And finally, the Ab-Fab Colin rounded off the evening with a great arrangement of …
All in all it was a very pleasant and cultured evening. Everyone (at least ) said they had a good time.
I originally planned to do one singers night every quarter. We managed to miss one out earlier this year unfortunately, because I have just been too busy. We take August off to crisp ourselves in the sun, so there won’t be enough time to do another one until after we are back. That therefore means the next singers night will be around the first week in October (Dark Nights, cold bitter northern wind I can hardly wait).
Once Again special thanks to all the singers.
